Street of samurai residences reminiscent of the old castle town of Sakura
The Sakura Domain was headed by hereditary daimyo feudal lords who held influential positions in the Shogunate, such as members of the council of elders. The town around Sakura Castle prospered for generations as a castle town. The street where Samurai Houses are located is still very reminiscent of the old castle town of Sakura. The former Kawara Residence is believed to be the oldest samurai residence remaining in the city. The former Tajima Residence is still located exactly where it was built. The former Takei Residence was relocated to its current location, and features exhibits of articles that were excavated during the relocation. These three former samurai residences, all of the different sizes, offer the opportunity to view what houses were like in those days, including the earth walls and hedges.
