Cherry Blossoms in Tohoku

Take in the magnificent views of the blooming cherry blossoms in late spring

Tohoku Tourism Promotion Organization

Cherry blossoms in bloom are a popular spring activity in Japan, but the blooming period can be short and unpredictable. But in the Tohoku region, you can enjoy different blooming periods by location – so there's a good chance you could see them even if you visit later in April or even May.

One of the earliest to bloom in the region is the cherry blossoms in Hanamiyama Park. The entire area is a paradise of blooming cherry blossoms and a variety of flowers, tinged with the colors of spring.

The blooming of the Hitome Senbonzakura follows, where rows of cherry trees stretch for about 8 kilometers, and visitors can enjoy more than 1,000 cherry trees and mountains covered with snow.

Kakunodate's Bukeyashiki District, often called Northeastern's Little Kyoto, also has beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom later in the spring. During the cherry blossom season, the emotional townscape and weeping cherry blossoms are a must-see.

Hirosaki Castle is one of the later-blooming cherry blossom spots in Tohoku. It's worth seeing the sight of the castle with the cherry blossoms in full bloom, but don't forget to take a look at the moat when it's filled with fallen petals – it looks like a carpet of flowers!
You can spend a long time enjoying the cherry blossom front in Tohoku, or you can choose the best time to visit. Please enjoy this unique collaboration of scenery and blossoms!
