Enjoy picking delicious peaches and grapes and experience harvest season in the Fruit Kingdom

Okayama Prefecture

Blessed with a mild climate, Okayama Prefecture is home to a variety of sweet, fragrant, and delicious high-quality fruits, earning it the nickname of Fruit Kingdom.

Okayama is especially famous for the best quality peaches and Muscat grapes in Japan. Okayama peaches are cultivated without direct sunlight to obtain the unique thin skin and pearly white color. The grapes have become seedless and large, and the fruit juice has sweetened because of advancement in the cultivation and breeding techniques.

Fruit picking depends on the season and climate, but in an average harvest season, you can enjoy picking peaches from the middle of July to the middle of August, and grapes from early September to early October. The farms are accessible by rental car from Okayama Airport, or either by bus or rental car from Okayama Station. Please be sure to make a reservation in advance for the fruit picking.

Fruit parfaits are one of the best (and tastiest) ways to appreciate Okayama’s fruit. A promotional campaign launched in 2009 and called “Okayama, the City of Fruit Parfaits” offers locals and visitors alike the chance to enjoy colorful parfaits made with fresh, locally grown fruit at over 30 stores around Okayama City. The ingredients and design of the parfaits change depending on the store and season, so it would be fun to find your favorite. At some of the fruit farms you can even experience making your own one-of-a-kind parfait with fresh fruit picked on the spot.

Visit Okayama and enjoy picking bountiful fresh fruits from the large trees and vines. Their lush, refreshing flavor is sure to satisfy not only your stomach, but also your heart.
