Kumamoto | Kumamoto Castle

A symbol of pride and resilience for the people of Kumamoto

The castle keeps of Kumamoto Castle, one of the three most famous castles in Japan, will be completely restored and finally open their doors to public on April 26th, 2021, exactly 5 years after the Kumamoto Earthquake. The castle is highly symbolic to the people of Kumamoto, and the reopening of its castle keeps, considered to be the crown jewels of the fortress, speaks volumes of the restoration process following the devastation of the Kumamoto Earthquake.  Furthermore, every year during cherry blossom season, from the end of March through the beginning of April, beautiful cherry blossom trees bloom magnificently at every corner of the castle grounds, which attracts not only tourists but locals as well to flock here as a premiere cherry blossom viewing spot.
