A Breathtaking 360-Degree Panoramic View at the Mountaintop Rainbow Line Summit Park

Fukui Prefecture

The Mikata Goko Five Lakes—preserved by the Ramsar Convention since 2005—are among the most famous scenic places in Fukui Prefecture. Located right by the lakes is the Rainbow Line sightseeing road that offers over 11 kilometers of scenic beauty. The road will lead you to the mountaintop Rainbow Line Summit Park, where you can admire the Sea of Japan and the five lakes all at once. There are five stylish terraces designed to float over the five lakes. Each terrace offers various attractions, such as Cool Japan award-winning footbaths with a superb view, big round sofas, and a cafe to escape the elements. You can take in the view from every angle by visiting each terrace. The Summit Park is home to a rose garden, where over 600 flowers of around 110 different species come into bloom in the spring and autumn. The best time to visit is from late October to late November.

How to get there

Take the express train from Shin-Osaka Station to Tsuruga Station (about 1 hour 20 minutes), then take the train from Tsuruga Station to Goko Terrace (about 40 minutes).
