In Iiyama, one of the snowiest places in Japan, snowshoeing is a great way to enjoy winter outdoor activities other than skiing or snowboarding. You can also see more terrain than you could with regular snow boots. Discover animal footprints in the snow, see breathtaking panoramic views, and experience the thrills of the backcountry. Local guides offer popular snowshoe tours at Nabekura Kogen's Mori-no-ie and Madarao Kogen's Yama-no-ie. These tours are great, especially for beginners. Learn how to wear snowshoes and get snowshoeing tips before you start your adventure. Snowshoeing in spring is also recommended; you can find leaf buds on deciduous beech trees before they open up into green leaves.
