Magnificent nightscapes, a beautiful strait, and fantastical festivals in Japan's number one night-view city

Kitakyushu City

Mekari Park Observation Deck 2

The northernmost city of Kyushu, facing the Kanmon Straits, Kitakyushu City was selected in 2022 as the best of Japan's New Three Most Spectacular Night Views. There are many spots throughout the city where you can enjoy magnificent night views, the perfect places to create memories with friends, family, loved ones or even solo!

With an altitude of 622m, Mt. Sarakura boasts one of the most famous night views in all of Japan. From the observatory at the top of the mountain, which can be reached by cable car and slope car, you can admire a large panoramic view of over 200 degrees called the “10 Billion Dollar Night View.”

From Mekari Park Observation Deck 2, you can overlook the Kanmon Bridge and the magnificent scenery of the Kanmon Straits spreading out before your eyes. The place is also known as a hot spot to see the sunset.
The majestic Kokura Castle, located in the center of the city, is beautifully illuminated year-round. In November, the Kokura Castle Takeakari Festival is held, and around 30,000 bamboo lanterns glow in the autumn night, creating a dreamlike atmosphere.

Kitakyushu has many other night view spots, including a factory night view unique to an industrial city, which can be enjoyed on a sightseeing cruise, and the illuminated Mojiko Port from the Mojiko Retro Observation Room. Explore them all and find your favorite!
