Partners Information: Free Wi-Fi service begins on Shinkansen bullet trains! The service will be gradually rolled out on the Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen (bullet trains) from 25 July 2018.
Shinkansen Free Wi-Fi stickers will be displayed in cars where the service can be used.
We expect that the Free Wi-Fi service will be usable all Tokaido, Sanyo and Kyushu Shinkansen by March 2020.
Usage method
Use your Wi-Fi enabled device (laptop, tablet or smartphone etc.) to connect to SSID: Shinkansen_Free_Wi-Fi
Anyone can use the service free of charge if they complete the authentication procedures. This can be done via social media or by registering an email address.
* In the event of a major natural disaster, anyone can use the service without registering.
Notes
- You may not be able to use the service in areas of poor signal, e.g. in tunnels
- You may be restricted on large downloads such as OS updates and app downloads to allow many customers to use the free Wi-Fi service
- The communication speed and service may be impacted by the number of users at the time
