Cycling through the Cyclist Sanctuary, Setouchi Shimanami Kaido

Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture

Setouchi Shimanami Kaido is a popular cycling route that links Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, and Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecure. Paths designed for bicycles and pedestrians are made along nine bridges that connect each island. There are also separate cycling routes throughout the islands. Cyclists around the world visit this course, and it is known as the cyclist sanctuary. In November 2019, it was designated as a National Cycle Route. Rental bike points on each island rent out bicycles so visitors can easily enjoy cycling.

How to get there

It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Haneda Airport to Matsuyama Airport by plane. Next, take the limousine bus from Takamatsu Airport to Takamatsu Station, which takes about 15 minutes, and then a train to Hashihama Station, which takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
