Missing Japan? Why not take a virtual trip to Japan through Japanese film?

The 25th Japanese Film Festival (JFF) in Australia makes its long-awaited return to cinemas nationwide, kicking off in Canberra on 28th October and ending in Sydney and Melbourne on 5th December.

This year's program tells the stories of those who dare to dream beyond limitations. From overcoming loss to breaking ties with stifling societal expectations, JFF 2021 celebrates resilience in the face of adversity.

At this year's festival, you might come across characters including the great artist Hokusai, an ex-yakuza struggling with life after prison, a quirky thirty-something year old woman navigating single life in Tokyo, or an orphaned chef who is determined to cook her way to the top.

Featuring the latest box office hits alongside rare 35mm and 16mm screenings of avant-garde auteur Shuji Terayama’s works, this year’s selection is truly a diverse mix.

The full program is out now!

Alongside the main program, JFF offers a free Satellite program that travels to regional centres. Plus, on 15-21 November, a free online program  of five films will be available for movie lovers from all across Australia and New Zealand to enjoy from the comfort of home.
