Partners Information: The beautiful mountainous prefecture of Kumamoto is perhaps as well known for its adorable mascot Kumamon as much as it is for its hot springs and scenic vistas. Since March 2010, Kumamon, officially designated as ‘sales manager and happiness manager’ of the region, has been spreading cheer and the wonders of the prefecture across the country.
Kumamon Park, a new 2.7-hectare area in Kumamon Port Yatsushiro, South Kumamoto is now home to 84 Kumamon statues. Highlights include a large 6-metre-tall statue, said to be the largest in Japan, and the ‘Kumamon Chorus’, an attraction featuring 54 Kumamon statues assembled to resemble a choir group.
The expansive new park area also includes a Japanese-style garden and bamboo grove, with plenty of areas to enjoy a picnic in the fresh air.
Why not add this charming new attraction to your list and see if you can find all 84 statues?
