Cosmos and Tulips in Funabashi

100,000 colorful cosmos in fall and 50,000 tulips in winter

Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture

Filled with seasonal greenery, Funabashi H.C. Andersen Park is one of the most popular amusement parks in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The park is divided into five zones: the Wampaku Kingdom Zone where both children and adults can enjoy an adventure obstacle course; the Fairy Tale Hill Zone, where Danish pastoral landscapes from the 19th century are replicated;  the Children’s Art Museum, where various art workshops are offered to children; the Nature Experience Zone; and the Castle of Flowers Zone. The Cosmos Festival is held until the end of October and boasts 100 thousand cosmos including 20 different species. You can also enjoy the-600-square-meter Cosmos Maze in the Fairy Tale Hill Zone. We recommend taking a photo of the colorful cosmos flowers with a full-scale windmill, the picturesque symbol of the park, in the background.
Tulips bloom naturally in spring, but in Funabashi H. C. Andersen Park, you can enjoy them in winter. These winter-blooming tulips are called “ice tulips” because their bulbs are kept in a chilly environment for their dormancy period so that they will start to grow earlier. There are about 50,000 tulips including 20 different varieties, with rare species like Tulip Double Princess and Tulip Queensland. The park’s landmark spots, such as the windmill and the fountain inspired by the world of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, will be decorated with pretty, colorful tulips. There is a 600-square-meter tulip maze in the Fairy Tale Hill Zone, and 15,000 tulips of various varieties on the way to the exit.

How to get there

Take the train from Tokyo Station to JR Funabashi Station (about 30 minutes), then take the bus from JR Funabashi Station to Funabashi Andersen Park (about 40 minutes).
