Partners Information: Habu Park is located in Nakama, a city in the northern part of Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyushu. It is a short 5-minute walk from JR Chikuzenhabu Station, which is about an hour-long train ride from JR Hakata Station. The park features around 1,000 blossoming sakura trees in the spring. As such, it is a popular place for locals to go and relax.
Interestingly, within the park grounds there are 50 or so ancient tombs - called Habu Rakan Hyakketsu - thought to have been built around 1,400 years ago during the latter part of Japan's Kofun Period. They were designated as historical sites by Fukuoka Prefecture in 1957.
On the other side of the red bridge spanning the large lake is the elegant Habu Shrine with its natural wood columns and walls. You can also hire a boat to admire the cherry blossoms from the water and the park is a popular spot for bird watchers, too.
The best time to view the cherry blossoms is from late March through to early April.
