Daishoin Temple has a long and storied history, once hosting Emperor Meiji (1868-1912) during his visit to the island and even renowned feudal lord Hideyoshi Toyotomi for a tea ceremony.

About five minutes' walk from the exit of Itsukushima Shrine, and located in a mountainous area rich in nature, Daishoin Temple is surrounded by several magnificent Buddhist buildings making it a solemn and tranquil place.
