New online experience - Stories of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima

Partners Information: A new online experience has been created by a local tour guide and second-generation atomic bomb survivor to share the experiences of atomic bomb survivors in Hiroshima. Miyuki was an interpreter for an American filmmaker who visited Hiroshima, and the stories she shares are based on interviews with survivors from this time.

In this one-hour session, Miyuki shares the stories of three of these survivors: what happened to them, what they saw and how they survived. You will also hear about their current activities, future dreams and message to people around the world. Miyuki will also share knowledge she has gained from her experience as a tour guide, and participants are encouraged to ask questions and discuss their thoughts too.

Even in Hiroshima, these stories are not something that people can readily experience. It can be difficult to talk to survivors about their experiences, even within families. Furthermore, while some survivors have started to share their personal stories, most of the testimonies were in Japanese.

Miyuki wants to remove the language barriers by hosting this online experience in English, and hopes that it will help visitors to Hiroshima gain a deeper understanding of the history of the city.
