Support Fukushima's communities by enjoying local delicacies

Partners Information: A decade has now passed since the devastation brought by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of March 2011. To witness Fukushima's restoration efforts today, MATCHA visited the towns of Iwaki, Soma, and Namie along the Pacific Coast and checked out their food culture.

The featured places are:

  • Yoake Market Food Street - featuring 15 different restaurants offering local treats including yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), Italian cuisine and local specialties.

  • Asahiya - for the only certified producer of Namie Yakisoba (chunky stir-fried noodles).

  • Michi-no-Eki Namie food court - especially to visit Fukushima Fruits Lab for their Namie Onion Smoothie and Namie Sky Parfait, and Honoka Bakery for their Namie Yakisoba Bread.

  • Hamanoeki Matsukawaura markets - especially for the fish market and to visit Quasetto at the food court for local specialties like Jizakana Don and Karei no Nitsuke.
