Partners Information: Hirosaki Castle in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture has a long history dating back to 1611 when the original castle was completed. The current structure was rebuilt in 1810 and is the only remaining castle tower in the Tohoku region that was built during the Edo Period (1603-1867).
The castle and Hirosaki Park, the expansive grounds it is located on, is perhaps most famous for its cherry blossoms. However, is also a sight to behold in autumn when the leaves of some 1000 maple trees and 2600 sakura trees change colour.
The Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival is held every year from late October to early November. The leaves are also lit up at night from around mid-October to mid-November depending on the year.
