Wind Chime Festival at Nyoirinji Temple

Partners Information: Nyoirinji Temple aka Frog Temple in Ogori City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is home to over 10,000 frog statues and figurines of various shapes and sizes. 

With a history of over 1,300 years, the temple is also known for its seasonal blooms such as cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in early summer, colourful autumn leaves in autumn and plum blossoms in late winter.

From mid-June to September, the soothing sound of thousands of furin, Japanese wind chimes, fills the temple grounds. Commonly found across the country in the summertime, their gentle tinkling sound is believed to help people feel refreshed during the warm summer months.

They are also believed to ward off evil spirits. You can purchase your own furin for 500 yen (approx. A$5.30) and write a wish on the strip of paper that dangles from the bowl-shaped bell.
