Design Discoveries: Towards a DESIGN MUSEUM JAPAN

Officially opening on May 15, 2024, and running until September 8, Japan House London’s new exhibition, Design Discoveries: Towards a DESIGN MUSEUM JAPAN, asks the question of ‘What is design?’ As Japan does not have its own national design museum, this exhibit has come together with the cooperation of 7 Japanese artists from multiple disciplines to try to find an answer to this simple yet complex question.

The exhibit will go in depth on each artist and their work, chronicling the story of each piece. Some examples of the work to be displayed include wooden spinning tops from Hyogo Prefecture from filmmaker Tsujikawa Koichiro, a ‘transacoustic piano’ from former Sega designer Mizuguchi Tetsuya, earthenware from the Jomon Period presented by architect Tane Tsuyoshi, and more. The exhibit also allows visitors to contribute their own ideas and treasures to a world design map, and will feature a packed events programme.

Japan Houses is located at 101-111 Kensington High Street, London, W8 5SA.
