Last week we set out some of the reasons why Japan is a great destination for your event, and from next week we’ll be taking a two-week tour of our fantastic cities. But today, I’ll be telling you how to stay in Japan in comfort and style – so read on to hear more about how Japan can accommodate you!
First, I’d like to tell you a little about accommodation in Japan in general. What can you expect when you stay in Japan? As with many things in Japan, there are contrasting options and a blend of tradition and modernity. Broadly speaking, with hotels, you’ll have the option of a traditional Japanese inn – a ryokan – or a more western style hotel.
A ryokan is perfect for those who want the traditional Japanese experience – a truly unique addition to an incentive, for example. Wooden beams, woven tatami mats and paper blinds: a stay in a ryokan can feel like you’ve slipped back in time. Many ryokan feature traditional Japanese gardens, which, combined with the muted, natural décor, emphasise a connection to nature. And once you consider that many ryokan feature onsen hot springs, there’s really no better place to relax or recharge.
Of course, there’s plenty of variety among ryokan. For example, although soft tatami matting makes sleeping on a traditional futon really quite comfortable, some guests can still feel a little intimidated. Luckily, there are ryokan that offer a mixture of western style bedrooms and other, modern twists that preserve the traditional atmosphere.
For larger events looking to combine accommodation and meeting space in one place, the western-style hotel remains the ever-popular option – and Japan certainly doesn’t disappoint here. From international to domestic chains, there are a range of options spanning all levels of luxury. The real secret in these modern hotels is that the Japanese tradition is still there – just in a different form. Omotenashi, the Japanese interpretation of hospitality, is of utmost importance in Japanese hotels. Guests can expect a stress-free, comfortable and above all, welcoming experience – no matter how modern and urban the setting!
