The Japan Convention Bureau (part of JNTO) is at IMEX again for 2019! Japan is a really exciting destination, and as the Convention Manager in the London Office, I’m thrilled to be joining you with our 23 expert partners to tell you what Japan can bring to your events.
We’re bringing our pre-IMEX newsletters to you via the IMEX portal, blog posts on our website, and across our social media channels. Today we’re onto the stars of the show – the destinations! Japan has lots of great convention cities, so we’ll be splitting this feature across two newsletters. Stay tuned for updates! This week, we’ll be covering the northern area up to and including Kanto. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the destinations.
- Sapporo
Hokkaido is famed for its natural beauty and wildlife. As Hokkaido’s capital and Japan’s fifth largest metropolis, Sapporo is a thriving hub for agriculture, veterinary and geosciences alongside strong research clusters for medicine, the environment and much besides. Sapporo also has a great track record of hosting international events.

Together with its strong academic and business networks, Sendai is a dynamic and meaningful choice for international events.

Nestled between the mountains and the sea, the natural and urban are in harmony in Toyama. The city has a strong pharmaceutical industry and excellent fresh seafood. On top of this, Toyama is highly accessible - with domestic and international flight connections, a direct bullet train from Tokyo, and reasonably priced convention facilities.
