Overview

Tohoku, the northeastern region of Japan's main island, is known for its volcanoes, mountainous terrain and skiing. In winter, you can see various different natural phenomena such as icefalls and drifting snow. In particular, the region is known for its "snow monsters," or rime-covered trees. Rime forms when water droplets freeze on the leaves and branches of the trees. Over time, they morph into all sorts of tall, peculiar shapes, which gave them their name. Enjoy the stunning natural beauty of the region and the wide range of winter activities available.

Location one: Drifting Snow Experience & Hot Spring
Location two: Snow Monsters Fantastical Avenue: Night tour of Yamagata's Mt. Zao in a snow vehicle
Location three: Snow Monsters Tour: Explore Miyagi's Mt. Zao in a snow vehicle (includes bus ride to and from Sendai Station)

Location five: Spectacular Icefall Tour: Go up on a ski lift and walk in snowshoes

Benefits

Location one: Get a chance to play in the snow in traditional Japanese snowsuits.

Location two: This tour is usually only open to groups, but we have arranged special priority seats for individual visitors. You can get to deeper regions that are difficult to access by walking alone, and enjoy the magnificent artworks of nature there. Visitors can borrow snow jackets and snow boots. Please ask for them when you buy the tickets.

Location three: Ride in a heated passenger cabin and enjoy the view of a rare natural artistic phenomenon: snow monsters, or rime-covered trees.
Since the snow vehicle is fully heated, you do not need to wear extra layers of winter clothing. You can borrow winter boots (16 to 29 cm) free of charge at the reception on the day of the tour.

Location four: Get 200 yen off the gondola lift ticket for adults. Also, get free original coffee (not sold in stores.)
